My Students

Students at our school come from a variety of backgrounds. My next class (2016-2017) will consist of 22 second graders who range in reading from a kindergarten level to almost third grade level.

As a Title 1 school, many of our students rely on free/reduced lunch and donations of school supplies, clothing, and food for the weekend from our awesome community.

Many of the students at our school need behavior support and lessons on how to make good choices. They truly benefit from all of the donations we receive.

My Project

Not many 7 and 8 year olds can sit still for long periods of time. Often, neither can their teachers! This project will help me provide more flexible seating options to my second graders.

A classroom with alternative seating choices is the dream of many students.

Last year we were given a wonderful classroom carpet and balance cushions from some awesome donors. I am hoping to expand our seating choices to balance balls, stadium chairs, and gardening cushions. My plan is to create a standing table, a traditional height table with chairs/stools, a table with 4 balance balls and a table with seating on floor. I believe all of these seating choices will help students to find a "smart seat" for the day so they can do their best learning.
