Smart Charts

Help me give my students the visual aids they need to support their learning! Using a color coded chart system will provide an additional scaffold for my students to find the resource that they need quickly and independently.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

These third graders are ready to learn English and their academic subjects! Imagine learning information in a new language. My students work twice as hard to understand the new language and use it to learn science, social studies, math, reading, and writing. I know how hard they work because I was one of them when I was in school. My students give all their heart into learning and they are thankful for the opportunity to succeed. My students are English Language Learners that will be taking major tests this year: NYSESLAT for their English language proficiency and the ELA and Math state tests. As third graders they are transitioning from early childhood to upper elementary and act as role models for the lower grades. As good role models they are reading buddies for the Kindergarten and First grade students. They also serve as mentors for the second graders helping them transition to third grade. My students are proud of their culture and have the American spirit to dream and work hard. They want a chance to learn and grow up to be productive citizens.

My Project

Charts are important for students because they are a visual reminder for them of what they are learning. Color coding the charts makes it easier for students to identify the charts for different subjects. Isn’t life just easier when things are color coded? My ENL students will be able to quickly identify the resource that they need. Charts are another teacher in the room. My students will properly use the charts that are hanging in the classroom to remind them of strategies to use during reading, writing, math, science, and social studies.

Incorporating table charts using the table top chart stands will be an additional scaffold for students.

These table charts will contain vocabulary, checklists, rubrics, prompts, and exemplars that will help students as they work independently and in group work. These are charts that I create tailored to the specific needs of the students and match the lesson of the day or the unit of study. The big anchor charts are used for the overall unit of study and the mini table charts are differentiated for the table and learning goals of the students.
