Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The items in this project will be used to address an essential task in my school: providing much-needed sustenance and energy to students who desperately need it: growing teenagers. My amazing students have to overcome so many challenges on a daily basis, including food insecurity, malnourishment and the crippling effects of urban poverty. Many of them tell me that leave home in the mornings without eating breakfast, and that some nights they go to bed without having had dinner. They are unable to fully focus on their education because they are constantly worrying about obtaining their next meal.

The snacks that this project would provide would serve as a vital lifeline towards improving student morale, increasing student attendance, strengthening teacher-student relationships and enhancing student performance in all of their classes.

Well-fed students equates to higher-achieving students; I can directly attest to having seen this during my 17 years a public school teacher in the South Bronx. Please help my spectacular, inspiring students overcome the effects of growing up in a "food desert" by providing them with snacks that will literally change their lives.
