Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a diverse, first grade, integrated, collaborative teaching (ICT) class, with a combined mixture of general and special education students at a large, high-needs, Title I school in the north Bronx. Although most students come from low-income homes or homes with limited parental school involvement, they are enthusiastic and truly come to school every day, ready to learn. These children see school as a consistent part of their daily lives and strive daily to make me proud.

My class of first graders is some of the happiest children I have ever had the pleasure of working with.

Not only do several of them struggle with unstable home lives, but many cope with various disabilities such as ADHD, autism, and speech and language impairments. These kids inspire me to provide the best education I can for them.

My Project

Working with a variety of learners requires me to create differentiated instruction for all. In order to ensure all students are being challenged at the appropriate level, we often work in small groups. When calling students up for groups it is most beneficial to work in U shape, so all students have equal access to the material and the teacher.

Reviewing skills with students using a Kidney table will allow all students an equal seat at the table.

Students will all be challenged and questioned without one student feeling further away than the other. As a reading teacher, I will also be able to hear each student's answers while working with them. This will help create an environment where all students will be willing to share, which is much rarely in a larger environment.

My students are learning to become good digital citizens as we incorporate more digital resources into their repetoire. It would be helpful to keep their headphones mounted on the side of their desks for easy access and also to reduce germs. These headphone mounts will be perfect for them!
