Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a self-contained gifted class that is made up of a combination of 4th and 5th grade students. They have a unique way of looking at the world. These are our future leaders, and these are the minds that will determine how our world will be. I want to help facilitate the right environment for them to succeed.

These students are part of a Title I school with 80% of them on are on free or reduced price lunch, and they don't always have the means to get the things they need.

Our school is a melting pot filled with students from all walks of life. In school, students should have a level playing field, but we know that not all schools are the same. So I'm asking for your help to give my students a leg up and a chance to change the world.

My Project

Our classroom is a combined class with flexible seating. This benefits our students as they work after finding their best way of learning. We need floor chairs and a table to increase engagement for those students who enjoy working in small groups or need that extra support.

This small group setting will allow students to seek additional assistance from their peers if they are confused by a topic.

An uncomfortable student is a distracted and unproductive student. These floor chairs and table as part of the flexible seating environment will encourage students to seek their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive. Comfortable students are engaged students.

Raising your hand and asking for help can be very intimidating, but having a space to have your peers help you will assist those shy students in getting the help they need. In addition, this type of flexible seating will encourage them to take turns in different locations and with different seating options. I am excited to incorporate this peer tutoring group set into my classroom.
