Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is the first Skills for Learning and Living (SLL) program at the school. Our school is located east of downtown Houston where the majority of the community is considered low-socioeconomic. Although my students have a variety of disabilities such as Autism and Intellectual Disability, my students shine through it all.

They may interact differently with other students or might need extra support to finish and/or understand an activity but nevertheless they are MY amazing students.

My students are curious just about anything in their lives whether it is an assignment on the board or the paperclip on my desk. They can also sometimes be afraid to try something new but we are working on them becoming independent day by day. My students are special in their own way and I believe that is what makes them unique.

My Project

Throughout the day, my students need to learn how to build sentences whether it is during our writing time or our read aloud activities. Special education students work best with either visuals or kinesthetic material and some of the resources that would benefit my students will meet their needs.

By combining the cut-and-paste sentence builder and daily sight word journal, my students will be able to enrich their vocabulary in any subject taught during the day.

My students would not only be able to work on this with either a buddy or a teacher, but become independent spellers.

The goal with each resource is to give the student a starting point where they either work with a teacher or with a friend. Through obstacles and practice, the student will become an independent speller and be able to create a sentence on their own at their level.
