My Students

Inspire young scientists! Our classroom is a vibrant place where learning is HANDS-ON! What's more hands on than a science unit focused on SNAILS? We will sharpen our observation skills and learn more about responsibility as we learn how to care for slimy snails.

We are a first-grade class in Indiana.

We are facing DEEP budget cuts. There is no money in the budget for slimy snails. My students are exciting, enthusiastic young learners who would greatly benefit from a chance to make observations about a snail's habitat, food, and behavior.

My Project

Having the snails and their habitat will help the young scientist in my classroom realize the power of observation and responsibility. They will be empowered to take the skills of observation and apply them to their daily lives. We will notice the habitat of snails, learn how to care for them, see if they have negative or positive reactions to the smell of vinegar and then sugar water, and try to motivate our snails in the great snail race.

The lessons and experiments I have planned with the snails provide opportunities for creative and analytical thinking.

The snails and habitats are a motivating way to get students excited about science, school, and LEARNING.
