My Students

Remember the first time you used a microscope and how cool it was to see something so close up? It is still exciting for students to do, and the more practice they have, the better they will be.

My students are from diverse backgrounds and many are English Language Learners, some attending school not speaking a word of English.

Being able to utilize a microscope is not something they must speak the same language to do. I can demonstrate for these students, and those that have never been able to succeed in my class before find that they are able to and excited to use the microscopes.

My Project

I am requesting several copies of insect slides, as well as cases to hold them. And yes, I know many of us think insects are gross, but they are definitely interesting to 8th graders!! Even if they think they are yucky, they are still fascinated with seeing them magnified.

It is important for my students to be fully comfortable with scientific equipment.

They struggle so much with the curriculum, but the equipment they can understand how to use. I already have samples of cells for the microscopes. Adding other types of slides to view can only encourage my students to practice and ask questions.
