Skoogy, Skoogy Do! Students Accessing Music & Sound
Help me give my students the opportunity to be young musicians through their tactile abilities. Skoog is a product that will give my students with fine motor, gross motor, and cognitive delays a new way to experience sound.
The student population that I teach consists of children from Kindergarten through middle school who require social and emotional support as well as autistic students and students with multiple disabilities. If you were to meet the students at our school, you would see that their abilities far outshine their disabilities and given the proper support through academics and the arts, our students rise to the occasion and shine bright like stars. My students have the capability and the grit to express themselves musically, theatrically, & artistically. Now they just need the tools to do it.
This DonorsChoose project will support our students to create their own music through adaptive technology regardless of academic or cognitive level.
My Project
Skoog will make a difference in my students' learning by allowing them to hold and play an instrument that is made specifically for them. Students can tap it, twist it, or squeeze it to make music. It's soft, tactile, and safe for my students and more accessible than most switches they already use to communicate. Basically, Skoog removes the dexterity barrier away from playing a musical instrument and all of my students, no matter their disability, will be able to use Skoog to become young musicians. It can connect wirelessly to their devices at home and it is compatible with many music and jamming apps. We will be able to play games using Skoog and I can already see how happy it will make them to communicate through music activities using Skoog.
