My Project

I plan to integrate music with language arts, science, and social studies to help jazz up core subjects. Music is an excellent way to "cement" ideas and engage students in a playful learning environment. I want to read "music" stories to my students and then have them engage with the lyrics to bolster their language arts skills and provide unique opportunities to immerse themselves in the study of the world around them.

Books that use music and lyrics to educate have the gift of instant engagement and "sneaky" learning.

By "sneaky" learning, I mean that most kids have no idea they're learning or even applying what they learn when they sing. Having students write about and discuss something they've found joy in through singing is an added bonus. I will use these song books to teach rhyme, rhythm, syllabic recognition, reading, story structure, cause and effect, character development and so much more! We'll discuss the lessons learned in these stories, where they came from, and why they are important to our society. Song books are a never ending opportunity to bring joy into the classroom!

I love what these stories can do and I'm excited to implement them in my classroom. What a gift arts integration can be!
