This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Teaching kindergarten in a Title I district is very rewarding, but it does come with some challenges. Most of our students enter kinder without experience in a structured environment. Maintaining routines, especially at the beginning of the year, helps students to become accustomed to a structured environment. One way that I would like to implement routines within my classroom is to begin using spiral-bound booklets that will be based on concept, skill, or standard. The title of this project, "Skills on Spiral," has a double meaning because I will be using the booklets to incorporate spiral review as well as new learning concepts in the spiral-bound booklets.

The goal for each of my students is that they have a deeper, more conceptual level of learning, as well as skill reinforcement, which occurs through spiraling back to previously learned concepts.

The use of the spiral binding machine would make the booklets more durable for students throughout several weeks or even through a whole quarter. I am asking for many different sizes and colors of coils to bind the booklets so that the students and I can keep the booklets organized and sorted by the topic or skill being practiced. I have also asked for two Teacher Pay Teachers gift cards, which will be utilized to find resources that are standards-based and that allow me to be able to get differentiated work for my students. A few booklets that I have already thought to create are: daily morning work, letter and number of the day, sight words, spiral math practice, and CVC and CVCe practice.
