Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students enjoy creating their own art work on paper and collaboratively in groups! This project will give them the opportunity to explore and collect their written reflections and sketches within their own personal journals and sketchbooks. The students will have a warm up activity everyday that they come to art class (5 days a week).The activity will consist of writing or sketching prompts that aim to allow the student to develop their self-awareness/social-awareness skills. They will have time and space to think reflectively and stretch their thoughts to make deeper connections with the world around them or within themselves.

The sketchbooks and journals will be works in progress that will be developed, maintained and refined over an entire semester.

The students will have opportunities to share parts of their sketchbook through a final class photo collage at the end of the semester. They will also share it with partners and they will have student teacher check points where we will discuss the development and completion of their work using specific criteria. The sketchbooks and journals will support their mental health as they can be used as tools to help them express their feelings and find inspiration and meaning in their world.
