Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These special students are 16-21 year olds living in precarious conditions, needing the resources of public education, caring teachers, and individual attention.

They will use these sketchbooks to draw, write, research, take notes, reflect, scream, paint, collage, yell at the world, and hopefully feel a little better at the end of the day.

Observational drawings from teacher selected images as starting points for each lesson will anchor their learning. New art vocabulary, thoughts about their projects, and reflections on new ideas and materials will all support learning objectives.

Sketchbooks are also ideal places to keep lists of all manner of things. Artists they like, places they want to visit, shows to see. The sketchbook will also be used to experiment with new materials, charcoal, watercolor, oil pastels, printmaking, and the related note taking. It is hoped that the sketchbook will become a thick, glued-in repository of mementos, a scrapbook, a love-history of their experiences with each other and the art world.
