My students need 75 sketchbooks to use for drawing outside at school as well as at home and over the summer to encourage the arts outside of school as well.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Martin's classroom raised $453

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
" Every Child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up."
-Pablo Ruiz Y Picasso
How can a child continue to create, imagine and dream both inside and outside of the classroom without the resources?
My student population is extremely diverse and the student body alone represents over 40 different countries.
We are a melting pot of cultures in a bilingual school which instructs in English and Spanish.
My students are from an urban community where resources are limited and usually only the necessities are purchased for their households. All of my students are dreamers, inventors, and creators, but sometimes they simply have nowhere to record their dreams and ideas. The students at my school love art and I find them drawing whenever they have a chance. These students have wonderful ideas and many times they are written or drawn on paper which gets lost or end up in the trash can because they don't have one spot to store them all. Getting sketchbooks would provide them with a way to continue to document, and carry with them their dreams.
My Project
As mentioned previously, these sketchbooks will allow students to continue to develop artistic skills and let their imagination soar. These sketchbooks will be used to go outside and draw from observation scenes of our school and it's garden crops we grow ourselves! Students will be able to understand the relationship between the visual arts and language arts by also using this sketchbook to write reflections, poems, and more about their art!
I plan to take students outside in the fall and spring to draw landscapes in these sketchbooks to learn about how colors change with seasons. I also plan to incorporate these sketchbooks as a place for written reflection on projects as well as project planning and a place to express their thoughts, feelings, worries, and anything they wish to share.
This one simple sketchbook will open up an opportunity for my students to continue to grow and develop artistic skills not only inside of the classroom and the school environment but also outside of the classroom.
It is crucial for students to have a place to express and document their thoughts, ideas, and experiences.
The youth of yesterday used creativity to develop the phenomenons of today, we need to maintain this creativity in the youth of today, they are the leaders of tomorrow.
