My Students

I currently work with second-grade students, 1:1 for reading. My students are amazing, yet struggle to sit for long periods of time, on the metal/wooden chairs they are subjected to. Being that this is the case, it is very hard to get through a lesson with them, because they lose focus and become extremely uncomfortable.

My students come from a very high poverty background and my goal is to make them as comfortable as possible, even their seating.

One student told me "I'd like a more comfortable chair and then I think I can read better." I couldn't have agreed more.

With a new seating arrangement, I'm sure they'll be set for success.

My Project

These chair bands will give my students an opportunity to have a chance at reading comfortably without feeling like they "have to sit in one position", which for the population I work with, is impossible. I want them to know, it's ok to be different and struggle with something like, reading, or sitting with their feet in an "aimless" position.

I want my students to get a chance to succeed, and even if sitting seems simple to some, it's tough to most!

I've noticed how hard it has been for my students to do something as simple as writing their name, or reading a title, without swinging their legs, hitting them on the side of the table, or kicking someone else. It's not their fault and I want to support them in their needs. This will make such a difference in their everyday learning!
