My Students

We are an urban high-need elementary school. We have a large free-lunch population and have a large percentage of learners with special needs.

We are an ICT class with a mix of general education and special education students.

We service all of our students with the same energy and intensity, but some students require additional supports and that is what we aim to provide. We scaffold every lesson so there is an entry point for each child and try to provide the types of physical and emotional supports so our special students can succeed.

My Project

Our new rug will give the kids a comfy place to sit and learn. The headsets are for those who have noise sensory challenges and the table stands are to be used instead of charts to keep the walls clear for those who do not respond well to overstimulating environments. The new baskets will be used to organize books and to keep the library (which is now full of different color/shape baskets) consistent and visually appealing. We use dry erase boards to make learning visible so we can evaluate work constantly as we move through our day. Our goal is to create an entirely new and engaging room for learning that feels homey and inviting. Our plan is to completely change the way our students experience school next year!
