This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My classroom has to serve many purposes when teaching science. It has to be a room for discussions, class lectures, group projects, and laboratory experiments. Unfortunately, the size of the room does not lend itself well to all of these purposes, and neither does the current desk setup that we currently have. It is very difficult to set up a room for 30+ students to do experiments with chemicals when pushing uneven desks together, which still leaves holes and gaps for spills and other unsafe situations.

We need additional tables so we can safely​ set up labs, group discussions, and other group activities.

By getting student lab tables for scientific experiments, we will be able to do a more safe setup of equipment. In addition, this table will allow us to facilitate more group work and discussions where we can literally have a group of students working around a table. It has been hard for students to work on posters and other projects when the poster is bigger than the desk. With tables, we can also have students engage in more student-to-student discussions, as they can all gather around a table to speak to one another face-to-face. These changes will have a huge impact on the safety and learning of all the students I teach, and the work they can accomplish.
