My Students

My middle school students are naturally curious. They love to explore, research, and read about topics that interest them. Many of my students come from homes where books are not always accessible.

But without access to a variety of interesting books, this curiosity can be stifled.

My Project

Not all kids enjoy reading stories; some migrate to nonfiction. This is why having a library with fiction and nonfiction titles is so important to engage all readers and to feed their curiosity.

Engaged readers seek to understand their world.

Having a wide selection of nonfiction books such as the History Smashers and Science Comics and biographies will engage my middle school readers. These books will help make learning content fun while also improving their reading skills.

Independent reading is an important part of my classroom. Adding these nonfiction books to our classroom library will give them more choices. These books will also expand their background knowledge of science and history facts and increase their motivation to read.

I can't wait to see them "sittin' with nonfiction" and become stronger, more engaged readers!
