My second graders are very curious about the world of science. As little scientists, they enjoy observing the world around them, collecting data, and making generalizations based on their current information.

These five big books on physical science would build more scientific concepts for my children. These books would investigate light, water, simple machines, sinking and floating, and the properties of materials. These books would provide information for my children to add to their own level of knowledge. Our state of Pennsylvania has realized the need for a strong science background. Pennsylvania is beginning to test science in the elementary program. There is a definite need for more nonfiction science materials in the classroom.

One of the books I have requested is named Sink or Float. Many of our students will sink when they take the Pennsylvania Science Tests if they don't expand their knowledge in the physical science field. These five books would be large enough so everyone could see the illustrations. These materials would be used as a start. I would be responsible to gather activities to go along with the five topics and expand the concepts. The main ideas derived from these five books would become the backbone to five units I would create for my children. You will help me become a better and harder working teacher.

If you support this project you will help many students gain scientific concepts, interest some students into science-related careers, and help others make the grade on the Pennsylvania science tests.
