My Students

Each day is full of learning new skills, reading strategies, socialization, and independence. With such ownership come feelings of excitement, pride, responsibility, and the confidence to take safe risks as learners.

My students are group of kindergarten students (5-6 years old) with so much enthusiasm and excitement as they walk in the first day.

For some kids, this is their first time away from home, but I welcome them in and we become a family. We learn together through reading, math, science, social studies, the arts, and the study of a new language (Spanish). Each child is valued and has much to share and much to learn!

My Project

Singing is simply one of the best ways for developing the sound awareness skills that are critical to learning to read successfully. We need music CDs for singing together.

In the English language, there are many sounds to learn, and children must also learn that certain letters, such as the letter c, can make more than one sound.

This can be a lot for children to deal with when they are first learning to read. Children must be able to play with the sounds of language. They need to make up nonsense words, make all kinds of animal sounds, tell you what words have rhyming sounds, tell you what words begin with the same sound, and more. And they have to be able to do this on a purely auditory level.
