My Students

In an effort to insure that at least 20 percent of my students' classroom experience includes hands-on laboratory work, I need many supplies. The various items can be quite expensive and beyond my meager budget.

I teach 100 students in Arkansas.

Many of these students come from rural outlying areas and have little opportunity to experiment in the ways that are needed. I have found that they love Science when they can relate it to their own lives. I hope to give them that experience in my classroom.

My Project

The supplies requested for this project will be used for many years to come! In our study of human biology, one focus will be learning about the digestive system. We will try to recreate the environment of the human stomach in test tubes by attempting to digest protein (egg whites) in a solution of pepsin and hydrochloric acid. As part of the experiment we will need to incubate the test tubes at a temperature of 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit...human body temperature! The students will be amazed when they see this happen.

I want my students to have many memorable experiences in my science class, and I believe that they will better remember the concepts I'm teaching if they experience working with the resources requested in this project.

I could never afford to do this without your help. This project could be the inspiration that will help some of my students become future doctors or scientists! At the very least, they will have a greater understanding of their own bodies.
