My Students

In an effort to insure that at least 20 percent of my students' science classroom experience includes hand-on laboratory work, I need many supplies. The various items can be quite expensive and beyond my meager budget.

I teach 100 students in Arkansas.

Many of these students come from rural outlying areas and have little opportunity to experiment in the ways that are needed. I have found that they love Science when they can relate it to their own lives. I hope to give them that experience in my classroom.

My Project

Many of the supplies requested for this project, such as the graduated cylinders and test tubes, will be used several times throughout the upcoming year. The human body systems will be played with the entire class and will be sure to spark many great conversations. The DVD about the miracle of life is an amazing video which I have seen before and am anxious to share with them. The UV beads will be used following a lab in which we investigate the effectiveness of different lotions containing sunscreen, and will serve as a reminder for them to use protection when in the sun.

I want my students to have many memorable experiences in my science class, and I believe that they will better remember the concepts I'm teaching if they experience working with the various tools and resources requested in this project.
