My Students

Our world is so fascinating and there is so much that we can learn about it. However some things are difficult to learn about if you don't have access to them.

I teach general science to about 125 seventh grade students at a small school in rural Arkansas.

Many of them are from farming communities near our school. Some don't have access to a computer or the Internet and have limited opportunities for traveling around to explore the world. I do all I can to bring the world to them in our classroom, but it is difficult without the right technology.

My Project

Our school has some laptop computers which are shared among all of the students in the school and it is often difficult to get access to them when we need them for our research. If we had a wireless laptop computer in our science room, it would greatly assist us when we need to do research. We could also use it along with various data collection devices. We are working with the COCORAHS volunteer rain collection network, and we collect daily rain data for our area and enter it into a national database. Beginning this year, we want to do an Arkansas plant identification project in which we will help to gather plants, press them, and enter data about them on another national database.

In today's world, it is so critical that students have access to computers and the Internet.

Most of my students are quite good at using computers, however, some are not because they have so little opportunity to use them. Please help us to obtain this valuable technology.
