My Students

In an effort to learn about plant growth, development, and reproduction, I want my students to be able to observe progression of real plants throughout the life cycles.

I teach Science to about 100 students in Arkansas.

Some of our students are from farming families and are familiar with plants and their life cycles, but many have never witnessed this. My students love science when it relates to their own lives, and through this project I hope to be able to help them to see how important it is for them to have an understanding of the concepts they will learn in this activity.

My Project

The plant kits and lighting systems requested in this project will allow the students to observe and study the germination and germination rates of the seeds, as well as the growth and development of the plants. They will be able to dissect the flowers to observe the reproductive parts. They will also be able to aid in the pollination, leading to fertilization and seed development. The cool thing about this project is that the students will get to witness these particular plants go from seed to producing flowers and more seeds in such a short time! We will also use information gathered in this project to compare human sexual reproduction to sexual reproduction in plants.

I want my students to have a memorable experience in my science class, and I believe that they will better remember the concepts I'm teaching if they see it all happen first hand.

This could be the inspiration that will help some of my students become future plant scientists! They will definitely have a better understanding of the life cycle of a plant.
