Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you discovered something new? My students are curious, imaginative and eager to learn new things. Simple science activities will spark my student's natural curiosity and open a whole new world of wonder for them!

I teach 21 Kindergarten children in a high-poverty area of New Mexico.

Our school is Title One and our student population receives 100% free breakfast and lunch. Half of my students are English language learners. Many of my students do not have educational role models for education, did not attend pre-school and are faced with hard times at home. School is a place of wonder, amazement and new things. My students are motivated, imaginative students who are learning about everything in the world around them. They would use these supplies to make a difference not only in their lives but also to inspire their families. My students will find success in themselves and learn new techniques using these science materials.

My Project

In self directed-small groups, my students will be able to experience the thrill of scientific discovery. Activities covering color mixing, life cycles, nutrition, weather, magnets and so much more will engage them in further experimentation. Students will be able to do these activities on their own which will give them a sense of ownership and pride. They will be able to ask questions, make guesses, share their findings with others and learn that the world is full of wonders. These science activities and small group cooperation will help build the foundation of the scientific method and will spark a sense of amazement.

Many of my students have not been introduced to the simple science that is all around them.

This project will encourage each and every one of them to observe the world and to feel a sense of wonder for everything in it.
