Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are predominately residents of the Bronx, although many of their families are immigrants from Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa. As one of the few arts schools in the Bronx, we try our best to create an environment that fosters creativity and collaboration through engaging, multimedia projects that draw on our students’ artistic abilities of writing, recording, editing, directing, acting, singing, dancing, drawing, painting, and beyond.

What all our students have in common is their desire to attend an arts school that pushes them to grow artistically and academically.

My Project

Our students love using technology. Having Chromebooks in our class will give students the opportunity to interact with more technology, thereby motivating them to engage more enthusiastically in class. With Chromebooks, classwork and group projects can be completed online, reducing the amount of paper we use at school while maintaining organized time-stamped student portfolios that can be accessed online and shared instantly with students, their peers, parents, staff, and the larger school community.

Using Chromebooks on a daily basis will help high school students prepare for college-level coursework by using technology like Google Drive and Google Classroom to collaborate with their classmates.

The resources we are requesting for our classroom will also be used to offer English language learners (ELLs) access to bilingual resources online and the option to conduct research in their home languages.

We would like to purchase Chromebooks because the laptops we currently have are outdated and take a long time to load, causing us to lose valuable class time. Because Chromebooks store everything in the cloud, they allow for faster loading and processing time than a traditional laptop, helping students to use class time more efficiently, allowing them to export more of their creativity!
