This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Kindergarten students want to know all of their sight words! I will be teaching kindergarten students how to identify and spell some of the first words they will learn at school-sight words! Many of my students will be entering a educational setting for the first time and will have little knowledge about letters, sounds, or sight words. Some of my students speak other languages at home and have had limited opportunities to learn letters, sounds, words, and how they are pronounced and spelled. My students have varying knowledge of sight words, however the desire they all have to be successful at learning sight words is enormous!

My Project

In Kindergarten, students first become familiar with sight words. They learn songs about sight words, practice sight words frequently, and become introduced to flash cards and the word wall, which can become repetitious as students go through different levels of sight words. For kindergarten students, learning sight words is an exciting new task that should be stimulating and interactive! Some of the activities that will capture the interest of my students include boards that say the sight words, sight word bingo, collecting sight word seashells. The engaging activities that will be provided through the generous donations will give my Kindergarten students fun and exciting ways to learn their sight words!
