My Students

My 7th and 8th grade students are the best! They are beginning to form commanding identities and question everything about the world and how they fit into it now, and how they will fit into it in the future.

Our school is located in Southwest Baltimore, an area of the city known more for its high drug use and crime statistics, than its student reading data and achievement.

With your help, we plan to change that! My students love to read and we can not wait to get our hands on our summer reading list!

My Project

Summer learning loss is an important phenomenon for teachers to consider prior to sending students home for the summer.

One of several strategies I intend to implement this summer is to ask students (and parents) to complete a summer reading assignment, together, of an inspiring science fiction story, The White Mountains.

Summer reading loss is cumulative, our children do not typically catch up in the fall. Many of their peers are progressing with skills while some are making up for their summer learning loss. By the end of 6th grade, children who lose reading skills during the summer are on average 2 years behind their peers. We are going to do everything we can to combat this.
