The students at our high school come from all over a large city in Pennsylvania and are vibrant, diverse, and passionate. Some students travel over 2 hours on public transportation just to attend our school!
As the only urban high school in the country completely dedicated to agriculture, we are extremely unique.
Our students work many hours on our farm, with our animals, and landscaping our school grounds as part of their curriculum. Their dedication to our school and this field make them very special.
Our athletic teams have a rich history in participation, sportsmanship, and dedication. As a medium sized school, we are lucky to run a no-cut program, where students who are interested, dedicated, and adhere to the standards set out for our program are able to compete on a high school athletic team. This is the first year we have an official junior varsity girls volleyball program so many more student-athletes will be able to compete.
As the Athletic Director at SHS, I strive to make sure all of our teams have the equipment they need to practice and compete. Last year, our girls' volleyball team was not permitted to use the gym due to COVID (our gym air ventilation was not cleared). Due to this, they had to practice on cement all season, and our volleyballs took a beating. Although it was not an ideal situation, the girls and coaches persevered and made a great playoff run in the Philadelphia Public League.
This year, we have an official JV team, so we have double the amount of girls playing volleyball.
It is, by far, our most popular sport in terms of participant numbers at SHS. Your help would greatly benefit the team to replace damaged balls from last year and help supply equipment to cover double the amount of volleyball players this year. We are so happy to be back inside our gym and ready to compete!
