My Students

Hello! My 6th grade math classroom represents a welcoming, safe, and challenging classroom setting where students learn and grow as academics and as young adults. The overall goals for my class of students who are in need is to show growth in academics, behavior, social, and emotional development.

Our school is located in the heart of New Orleans, Louisiana's inner city "uptown" and in lieu of this environmental constraint, every day students show up willing and ready to learn.

They are excited to explore the world of high school literature, to learn about the classics, and to expand their capacity for critical thinking. They take pride in their efforts and are willing to challenge their minds for the sake of learning.

My Project

Any donations to this project will help to improve my students' learning by helping develop a students level of fluency and proficiency when answering teacher facilitated group questions. Also, they requested items will help students develop a sense of independence while working on math problems. The economy dry-erase answer paddles will be used by the students to express themselves in a quiet manner, which is visually recognizable by the teacher and facilitates the immediate feedback to the students. A major component of the 6th grade math curriculum is ensuring hat students understand graphing and positive and negative intergers. The requested student write on/wipe off number lines will be placed on the student shared desks to assist the student by providing a ready desktop tool available to solve the presented mathematical problems. Both of the requested items require the use of dry erase markets and split between 62 students daily, the need for a sustained supply of markers will certainly be a blessing. An additional benefit of the paddles and number line resources is the added benefit of provide valuable and much needed feedback in the form of overall student misconceptions, confidence, and general ability by just glancing across the classroom at student paddles and expressions!
