This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

On March 13, 2020, our entire school community was uprooted. I had to tell my students that the Intervention Lab was closed/cancelled for the day. Homeroom teachers needed the day to explain to students that the next two weeks they would work independently from home. Students and teachers were very confused with the news but quickly made plans for continuation of learning. Our entire world was changed within hours. Little did we know that those two weeks would turn into months.

The biggest challenge was our limited technology.

All of my students are below grade level in reading foundational skills and need small group instruction on a daily basis. My gaol is to provide remote/distance learning support on a daily basis.

My Project

One of the most effective and powerful ways to engage students in lessons is by directly modeling. When students see what the teacher is talking about then they can apply it in their own learning. On a daily basis during my direct instruction, I always show my students what I am talking about as opposed to just telling them. Remote learning has created many challenges and one of them is not having the right technology at home. Not being able to show my little kindergartens what I am talking about will be a failure due to remote learning.

A document camera that I can connect to my laptop is a must!
