My Students

Have you ever had the opportunity to observe a child's growth as they become a reader and learn different words? Their is a sparkle in their eyes, their smiles become bigger, and they feel a sense of accomplishment. My goal is to keep that sparkle bright!

My students are the ones who keep me motivated to keep learning so that I can teach them.

There are 22 anxious, hardworking, cooperative students who deserves all that the world has to offer. We are located in a "low income" area in Tennessee. I have many students with abilities and disabilities that affect their lives in many ways.

My Project

The resources that are requested will help build my students' vocabulary by providing multiple ways to create and learn new words. The materials will also provide additional support for my struggling learners while in small groups or when I'm working with student one-on-one. One activity that I have my students to do is to search magazines for a new word that they would like to learn. Next, we develop a definition that is age appropriate. The student practices writing the word in many ways, using a variety materials such as markers, play dough, etc. Last, the student writes sentences using the word.

I feel that my project is so important because it will have a major impact on literacy.

Many students do not have exposure to reading and writing outside of the school setting. My goal is to make their reading and writing experience fun, exciting, and rewarding so that they will continue to hold a love for learning.
