Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I teach biology in a large high school in an urban school district in Connecticut. My students come to me with diverse backgrounds and life experiences, but they are all focused on reaching their greatest potential.
Every child learns in their own way, and I strive to create a classroom environment with learning opportunities to support all learners.
I want to provide my students the best education possible so that they gain the skills and confidence to succeed so that they can achieve their goals.
My Project
In the Advanced Placement Biology class, high school juniors and seniors get their first taste of a college course. The rigorous AP curriculum mirrors two semesters of introductory level college biology. Students take the AP exam in May and hope to score high enough to be given college credit by the institution that they will eventually attend.
The AP experience helps to make students "college-ready." Students who take AP classes are prepared to handle the work load and expectations when they go to college.
Part of this experience comes from learning how to study and apply the knowledge gained in class to answering questions.
The AP Biology class is one of the most challenging courses for a high school student to undertake. Having the right tools to prepare students for the AP exam will help them to improve their chances of success. This can translate into saving thousands of dollars when they begin their college career with credits earned from my class. The test prep books will be an invaluable resource as the students undertake this journey.
