My Students

My students are a great group of students who are filled with a lot of energy. They are a mixture of Brooklyn natives and recent immigrants to our country. I have a large population of recent Yemeni immigrants. They come to school every single day excited to learn. Their excitement pushes me to do my best everyday.

Many of my recent Yemeni immigrants have experienced years of interrupted schooling, destruction of their homes and family members that have been lost due to the conflict in their home country.

Despite all of their trauma these kids are resilient and inspiring!

My Project

It isn't a secret that inner New York City kids LOVE basketball, both girls and boys! They grow up playing ball every day in their local town parks. Unfortunately our school only provides them with a very small, outdoor, half court, so it is really hard to include everyone in our basketball drills, skills, games and tournaments.

I have no shame in admitting that my students often teach me a thing or two about how to play basketball!

They are amazing players who are unfortunately unable to have a competitive school team because we do not have a full size, official basketball court, nor do we even have a gymnasium with a hoop.

Please help me help my students receive extra basketballs and an extra hoop in order to get more students involved and move the net somewhere indoors when the weather gets too cold!
