This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever tried to concentrate, but just couldn't because of the distractions in the room? That's what's happening to my students.

I teach the cluster of 4th grade English language learners at my school.

Most of these students come from a Hispanic background and receive free or reduced lunches. As a result of their low income, not all have access to computers and the Internet at home. It is especially important with students who do not speak English as their primary language to have access to visuals in order to aid with their understanding of the grade level content, as well as acquisition of the English language. The Internet, as you know, is home to virtually every type of photo, movie, animation, sound, video clip, activity, etc. you can think of, and there are a million wonderful programs to aid with learning not only for the English Learners, but for all the other students as well.

My Project

You see, once students have completed their mandated work they are allowed to use the computers for extra learning. The only problem is that a lot of the programs require sound, which can become a distraction for the others who are still trying to finish. Even with the speakers on low, those sitting at their desk lose focus. I am requesting 3 headphones for classroom use and 20 mouse pads for the computer lab. Both of these items will help minimize noise. The headphones will ensure that students can experience the full range of the activity on the computer without distracting those who are still working, as well as not distracting the person on the computer right next to them. The mouse pads will help do the same thing in the computer lab. Right now you can hear the mice being moved around the table, not only damaging the devices themselves, but making a clanking noise as they are being used.

This donation will allow me to use computers in the classroom without having to worry about others being distracted.

It will let the students experience technology and learning that they may not be exposed to at home. Lastly, it will ensure the mice that we have right now are used the way they were meant to be. Thank you in advance for all of your support.
