Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are fun, loving and energetic. They love to do hands-on activities and are very creative when given the opportunity to make things. They enjoy class discussions especially when they get to talk about their home and life experiences even though they are not always good. My students are silly and will often dance throughout the day. They thrive with support and positive reinforcement. My students enjoy reading and will often share their journal entries. I love teaching 1st grade because they often teach me!

My Project

Having a Listening Center in my first-grade classroom would benefit the students in so many different ways. It would give them the opportunity to read a book that they may be interested in but might be too hard. This way they would not be discouraged. My students would get the chance to practice one-to-one correspondence, vocabulary, and fluency. They could then talk with a peer about what the story was about and feel confident talking about the book.

Listening to a story read to them while following along with a book would just be a great way for my students to get lost in a book.

My students love when I do a read aloud so a listening center would be a great place for them to listen and engage in more books!
