Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This will be my second year of teaching first grade in a school serving low-income households. This year, my students are extremely energetic and excited to learn how to read and write. However, our school's curriculum doesn't support all learners and I want a whole-brain strategy to teach those tricky phonics patterns.

Enter the Secret Stories: A way to crack the code with spelling and phonics instruction.

This whole-brain and engaging method of learning teaches phonics with stories that help students remember those tricky parts of words. I used them during my student teaching in kindergarten and saw first-hand how it is a game changer for ELA instruction. With the Secret Stories, I can support my students when teaching them the phonics skill of the week. Additionally, I can use the flashcards in my ELA small groups to differentiate to meet the needs of all my learners. Please help me give my students a surprise that will have them excited every day to learn a new phonics secret!
