My Students

I will be losing my current bookshelves, in conjunction with a room change. This will leave my students without their reading nook. My current classroom has, what I feel is a perfect classroom library. How do I know? I know because my students thoroughly enjoy reading in this special nook.

My students attend a Title One school in New York City.

A Title One school, is a school that has many students with financial difficulties. Our school is much more than a school for these children. Many of our students and their families rely first-hand on our school. New York City is facing severe budget cuts, especially to the education budget. Without much needed funds, the children are not receiving the type of education they deserve and are entitled to.

My Project

If this request is granted, my future students will be able to benefit from a reading nook, just like my former students had. Many of the students I have had improved upon their reading skills, just because of the coziness of this reading nook. They could not wait to finish their class work, just so that they could go to read in the classroom library. The many genres of books, bean bags, and rug NEED bookshelves in order for this nook to exist. I cannot imagine how I will be able to organize the books in any other way, that is beneficial to my students needs.

My students do not have many resources that other children their age do have.

Please consider these bookshelves as the building blocks for many future avid readers. My students and I thank you in advance for your consideration and generosity.
