My students are a rainbow of cultural and socioeconomic diversity in a rich, urban environment. They are both artistically and academically motivated in their learning as they attend an arts/performing arts high school in which they have specific majors of study in the arts. They are also college-oriented and choose rigorous preparatory coursework such as college-level, advanced courses. My students also enjoy expressing their knowledge and their art through classroom discussions and debates, group work, and hands-on experiments and projects. Studies show that incorporating multiple sensory stimuli while learning creates more memory retrieval cues to the course content.
Psychology is not only a study of social behaviors and the mind, but it is also a science of the biology of the brain and our 5 senses.
In order to bring a proper and worthy close to my Cognitive Psychology classes, I would like my students to participate in the dissection of sheep brains and cow eyes. These laboratory exercises will clearly summarize all of their long hours of studying and research in the field of psychology. My students need 50 sheep brains to study the structures of the brain and 50 cow eyes to study the structures of the eye.
Your donation today will not only provide my Cognitive Psychology students with an incredible and engaging learning experience, but it may also inspire their future careers in psychology, psychiatry, and neuroscience.
