My Project

As part of our IB science curricula, students learn kinetics, the study of the rate or speed of a chemical reaction. How can students measure the speed of a chemical reaction when atoms and molecules are too small to see?

If a reaction uses up or produces colored chemicals, students can use these colorimeters to measure how much colored light is absorbed by these colored chemicals over time.

For example, IB Biology students will be able to observe how different factors affect how fast enzymes can break down colored substrates. IB Chemistry students will be able to calculate reaction rates in real-time.

Some of these experiments require that students wear personal protective equipment such as goggles. These new goggles have an anti-fog coating to ensure that students are more comfortable while they are engaged in their lab activities.
