Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My middle school students are from many different backgrounds. Each of them has different needs in order to learn, in my opinion, the most comprehensive and interesting curriculum...science! They love having a guinea pig as their classroom pet. It has helped with building connections, classroom management, and responsibility.

My students love learning with hands-on experiences, labs, and experiments.

Many of my students do not have a pet at home. Having a guinea pig gives them that sense of community and responsibility. I want to engage my middle school students with what we are learning and make it come to life for them. Being a pre-teen and teenager is a difficult time in their lives. I want my classroom to be a safe haven where they come to learn, have fun and become life-long learners.

My Project

Not only will this collection of books inspire young female students, but also normalize women in STEM for young male students. This will be a growing library of books and resources that can inspire all different races and ethnicities represented in our school. They can read about the stories where women were behind some major projects like the Brooklyn Bridge and the discovery of the DNA structure.

It will also help change the stereotype that a scientist is a white man, with glass, wearing a lab coat working in a lab.

There are many exciting careers out in the field for students to travel and explore the world around them.
