Help me give my students the tools needed to immerse themselves in the genre of Dystopia with a novel study they can also use to compare to the film adaptations during book club and sharpen their minds.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My book club students truly enjoy the thrill of reading and are ready to jump into our new genre study, Dystopian fiction. Here we will be able to have philosophical debates on society and the world they live in today. With an emphasis on what they feel needs to be done to help change the world, make an impact on the future, and how they want the world to be.
By working in small groups and reading different Dystopian novels we can analyze characters, themes, and the roles the governments play on how societies operate in these novels.
This will help bring in their social studies knowledge of civics and government. They will gain an understanding of what it takes to make a change in society when they are faced with injustice through reading this particular genre. The pencil sharpener will provide us with the ability to keep those pencils moving while we're annotating and writing to show our thinking about the novels.
