This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Sharpened pencils in a classroom are a necessity. They are needed to complete work for every subject. We have only one pencil sharpener for our whole grade level, and it is getting very old. It is very challenging to have 5 classes trying to use the same sharpener every day.

Our students are low income.

They often come with little or no supplies. We do not have a PTA so our school tries to help as much as possible but there isn't much budget available. Teachers end up buying most of the supplies for our students to use. We use lots of pencils each day and with only one sharpener in the fourth grade, we often have to stay late to sharpen our pencils. The students in our classes love having jobs to do. Having a sharpener in our classroom would allow us to give them the opportunity to have that as a job and free up that time for our teachers to plan.

My Project

Writing is a huge focus in fourth grade. Pencils are so important for that. Since we encourage the students to write a lot, they often use multiple pencils during a class period. It would be so great to have a sharpener readily available for our students to use in each classroom. We could also use it as an opportunity to teach responsibility in taking care of it. Our current sharpener is very old and when it breaks, I am not sure what we will do. Your donation would allow each classroom to benefit in a huge way. Our students would be able to sharpen their pencils as needed so that their learning is not interrupted by broken pencils. I know that the students would be very thankful!

Of course there are so many things I would love to have in my classroom that would enrich the environment, but there are also many necessary items as well!

These automatic pencil sharpeners are vital to our students and would help in so many ways. As you consider donating to our school, please know that we are so grateful for anything you can give! It often takes many to "raise" a child. Pencil sharpeners would be a great way for you to make a difference in so many students' lives!
