My Students

Students work best when they are working in an energetic and highly equipped classroom. The ability to incorporate music and sharpened pencils is essential to providing invigorating lessons. It will enhance the environment and help students focus on their work while listening to classical music

The students in my classroom are of all diverse backgrounds.

The class is an ICT class that incorporates 40% special education students and 60% general education students. Some of the students have special needs,some are struggling students, others are ESL students and still others are highly achieving, honor students. It is a very diverse population. Many of my students were also affected by Hurricane Sandy. 5 students lost everything. The ability to reach each student is a dilemma that is faced everyday. Anyway that the classroom can be enhanced so that the focus is on academics would help immensely. A sharpened pencil and some music playing in the classroom would greatly help the students.

My Project

Playing classical music during writing helps focus the students on their work and it keeps them calm and on task. Being able to play multiplication rock and grammar rock to help them remember basic principles will help in their reading, writing and math. Sharpening pencils becomes a daunting task when the sharpener in the classroom does not function well and is very noisy. Having a new, highly improved, heavy duty pencil sharpener will help everyone in the classroom. Trying to find a pencil that works well wastes student and teacher time. The ability to supply sharpened pencils to the students everyday would be a great asset to the classroom.

My "Sharpen Our Points" project will help enhance the classroom immensely.

Students will be able to write in a learning environment enhanced by sharpened pencils and classical music. Many of the students have been affected by Hurricane Sandy and a supportive classroom environment is imperative to these students.
