My Students

Everyone loves to write with a freshly sharpened pencil. My first grade students are no exception. Every morning when they come to school I am always asked to sharpen their pencils. Unfortunately, I have to say no because the current sharpener I have is broken.

I work in a very underprivileged school where family incomes are very low.

It is a struggle for students to bring in the basic school supplies every year. Sharpened pencils, for example, is a necessity for learning. If students do not have that one basic tool, it is practically impossible for them to do their daily lessons.

My Project

I am requesting two electric pencil sharpeners because my students deserve to have the best in everything. When their pencils are sharpened they have less hesitation to do their work. As stated earlier, the pencil sharpener I have now is broken so I cannot sharpen their pencils. I am forced to send them to another classroom just to sharpen their pencil. They miss valuable lessons when they are out of the room, even for such a short period of time. I am asking for two electric sharpeners so I can keep one at each end of my classroom so my students will always have access to a sharpener when needed.

Having this project funded is so important to my students because they will never go without a sharpened pencil again.

Also, they will never have to leave my classroom and miss valuable learning because they are sharpening a pencil elsewhere. Just the thought of having unlimited sharpened pencils encourage the students to always do their best work.
