My Students

There are times during a lesson when it would benefit my students to be able see a demonstration of an assignment, or samples projected on a screen to help them actually see the concept being taught. This is especially helpful for visually-impaired students or general differentiation in class.

This being my first year teaching in this district, so I have not met any of my students.

However, knowing the community, it is a small college town with a hospital, and it is not uncommon for a student to have a parent attending college, either furthering their own education or trying to establish a career to support their family. The school is one elementary school in a district that contains a total of 4 satellite schools. Because of the college, hospital, and the large area the district covers, the range of social economic statuses of the students varies greatly.

My Project

Teachers aren't always able to anticipate everything that may happen in the classroom. There are times during a lesson when it is clear to the teacher that quickly showing students exactly what she's talking about will either make or break a child's understanding. Having a document camera in the classroom makes doing so simple and quick. You don't need to photo copy or print any samples or documents on a clear overhead sheet, rather, you only need to project it on a screen and the students can all see at once what the teacher is trying to explain. This works wonderfully with books, worksheets, and virtually any item you want to project on to the screen. This can't be done with an overhead projector. This works especially well with visually-impaired students as well as capturing and holding all of my students' attention. I've used a document camera in another school district and it's one of the best assets a classroom teacher can have.

This project is important because having use of a document camera will help catch and keep my students' attention during a lesson, as well as aid in their comprehension of new concepts.

It is also a great tool for students to demonstrate their understanding by displaying how they do a task to their whole class. It's a viable tool that enhances any classroom from K to 12, and every subject being taught.
