I've come up with a way for my students with autism to share their experiences with their families!

My students are non-verbal, highly involved, children with autism. They are unable to share with their families their experiences throughout the school year. While taking a course on I-Movie, a movie making program, I realized that this is a perfect way to allow my non-verbal students to express and share their experiences with their families. I borrowed a laptop from a technology person in my district to create movies of the children making Valentine's gifts for their families. I set it to music, added subtitles, and gave them to the children to give their families as a gift. The response from my students' families was overwhelming. They were so grateful to have the movie to share with their children. It gave their children a voice. I have since had to return the laptop and am currently unable to do the same with this year's class or any other.

To continue to be able to provide my students with this mode of communication with their families, I will need an Apple Laptop computer and a portable video camera. I have a digital camera that I also use for the still photos.

YOUR help will allow countless children to share their lives and experiences, with the people they love. You will be giving these non-verbal children a voice and a story. You will be giving their families the gift of having a way to hear their children. Thank you.
