My Project

My school is a community institution in Bedford Stuyvesant that has long instilled pride in children’s African-American heritage. My school is seeing an increasing number of students qualifying for free or reduced rate lunch. My students strive to be the best in all academic areas. In my classroom, I introduced a new teaching method, known as “project-based learning” Because of their unique ways of learning, it is essential to have a variety of teaching tools to ignite curiosity and help develop a love and passion for reading. My students are eager learners and deserve the opportunity to prepare themselves for the future by exposure to supplemental text to increase their reading and comprehension skills. If funded, you will not only be helping students increase creativity and curiosity skills but also their motivation to learn new things.

Project-based learning (PBL) provides an interesting challenge for preschool teachers because it extends beyond early-childhood education mainstays such as teacher-directed themed crafts and short daily lessons.

PBL, which focuses on children learning through investigating a topic or answering a question, is an involved process that could last for as long as the children show interest. Facilitating PBL is easier when teachers pick something to explore based on the children’s interests and implement their ideas in the project. When children are engaged in the process, they naturally develop skills they can apply later in life.

Being in this neighborhood my students do not get much exposer to writing tools such as marker, glue, variety of papers so I am requesting the items for donations. Students in my classroom like to explore with writing and my school doesn’t have a large collection of papers for writing such as the ‘smarty start writing paper’, so I would like to have these.
