This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
There is absolutely no doubt that I love my job as an educator — I love the day-to-day interactions with the kids, I love seeing them converse and interact with their friends, I love just being a miniscule part of this grandiose experience that will shape the rest of their lives.
One of the biggest mantras that I instill in my students is to tell your story and tell it well; to not let anyone else take hold of the pen or the lens or whatever tool they use.
As these wild and beautiful teenagers live their brilliant lives, I want to ensure that they have the tools and resources to show the world a day in their shoes.
I love every single thing about my students, I love how keen and sharp they are. I love their creativity, I love how resilient and tenacious they are and most of all, I love how they never back down (which we often butt heads about, but still!). With your help in funding this project, I can show you all the reasons I have fallen in love with education and these kids too.
My Project
With your help in funding this project, including a camera, a microphone, and lighting, students will be able to showcase a day in the life of a high school student. Our end goal is to produce a newsletter and video series to show parents and community members the positive things that go on day-to-day at our school.
I firmly believe that no matter what you hear from teachers, administrators and other faculty and staff, the stories that our children tell are the ones that matter the most.
By fully funding this project, you are funding a future journalist, a future artist and the next generation of influencers; you'll be able to catch a glimpse of all of the wonderful ways that teaching and learning occur here at our school.
