Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We all know reading a lot is key to a child's learning. Children enjoy reading new books, learning from them, engaging their imaginations, and building their reading skills. In order to accomplish this, a classroom must have many options that are rich in diversity, content, language, levels, and themes. I would like to include more centers in my classroom that allow my students more center areas and freedom with reading while still allowing me to help guide their learning.

With a classroom library that is diverse, accessible, and at their level, my students can engage in books that will not only build their reading skills but will enhance their knowledge of the world around them, and build empathy in their lives.

I am also focusing on the proven research of the Science of Reading by including more decodable books in my classroom.

The books I have chosen help meet the student's needs regarding the content being taught in the classroom and give students the chance to read about mindfulness, and inclusivity, and are relatable to a wide range of students. The books I have chosen include a wide range of themes and levels. This would make sure that there is something that appeals to every student. I have requested items that will create a comfortable classroom like writing tablets to share what they have learned quickly and efficiently.

I will not just have the books available to read for students in a library setting in my classroom. Still, I will choose a book each week of the school year. We will read them together as a class and cultivate classroom discussions, and activities, and allow instruction such as writing and social studies to be themed to the book which provides a high level of student engagement.
